Koç University Queer Club says that there are no trans rights in the university.
“A transgender student who was accepted to Koç University abroad decided not to come to the university due to the transphobia she was exposed to during the application process. Her request to stay in a single room was also denied, as she was forced into a boys’ dormitory at the school. Moreover, although she signed the application form with her own name, the name (deadname) assigned at birth by the employees responsible for the application process continued to be used. Even in the education process, which is one of our most basic rights, those who ignore our gender identity statement in the heteronormative system and try to imprison us in the binary gender system do not listen to our needs and demands,” they said. Koç Queer Club shared this statement with the public.
